Pre-Symposium Tour, June 3-5, 2011

A three day ISSPA Pre-Symposium Tour will be conducted June 3-5, 2011. The Tour will meet at MAICh on June 3, 2011.  Cost: €350

Day One: Travel to the northeast coast of Crete, stop at Agios Nikolaos and continue to Elounda beach and visit Spinalonga island.
 
Day Two: Visit Lasithi plateau and Knossos archaeological site.

Day Three: Visit National Museum in Heraklion. The tour ends at MAICh on June 5, 2011.
 
Pre-Symposium Tour price includes all ground transportation, two meals per day (breakfast and supper) and lodging. Availability of tours is subject to seating. Minimum enrollment is 30 participants.

Chania City Tour

The City Tour of Chania, consists of a full tour in the history and variousness of Chania. Starting from the Old Port, which is a meeting spot of different cultures, the visitor can admire the old Venetian fortress “Firkas” (housing the Naval Museum), as well as the numerous oriental rhythm buildings, which were constructed during the occupation of Turks. Visitors will be “captured” by the monuments, the Ottoman precinct “Giali Tzami”, the famous dockyards, the marvellous street of knives-craftsmen and the Venetian pearl barley of Chania, which is a terrific tourist stop.

As the tour moves on, the visitor can enjoy browsing in the public market, built in 1911 and containing numerous different shops. The tour ends with the transfer to the famous “Venizelos Graves” where visitor can admire a spectacular view of the city. Cost: €30

Monastery of Chrysopigi Tour

The Monastery is built on a rocky hill in Agia Kyriaki, just a few kilometers away from Chania. It strives to bring the buildings in harmony with their surroundings and natural environment. Cost: €25

Choice of midweek tour is included in Symposium registration. Family and guests may also register for either of the midweek tours at a cost of €60.
Midweek Marathi Tour
Sightseeing excursion that departs from the Port of Souda with stops at the pretty fishing village of Almirida, Cape of Drapano, Marathi beach where you will have plenty of time to swim, sunbathe and visit the site of ancient Minoa.
 
8:30 am - Departure from the hotels
9:00 am - Departure from Port of Souda
5:00 pm - Arrival to the hotels


 
 
Technical Tour
The day starts with a visit to the Institute for Olive Tree and Subtropical Plants, where the laboratories for soil and leaf analysis, irrigation and water management are located. Next will be a visit to the organic farm of ‘Chrisopigi’ Monastery. After that will be the organic olive producing company in Kolymbari (orchard, compost production, olive processing, oil bottling and exporting) Lunch (traditional food) will be in Kissamos.  The tour will finish up with a visit to some greenhouses for organic and conventional vegetable production in Gramvousa (tomato and cucumber) and a vegetable packaging plant in Falasarna.

Post Symposium Tour
Samaria Gorge
Stretch your legs on a hike through the Samaria Gorge, the longest gorge in Europe. The hike through this National Park is 16km and ends at the sea with a boat ride. Fee includes entrance fee and transportation from and to the hotel.
